As Brooklyn prepares for the massive makeover that is the construction of the Barclays Center for the Brooklyn Nets as well as a skyline of new residential and commercial towers, the status-quo of the stretch along Atlantic Avenue between Flatbush and Vanderbilt Avenues and the surrounding neighborhoods is somber. The last remaining businesses and residents have been bought out and have left. These photos reflect both the dying and the newly born.
